Belém is located in the western part of the city of Lisbon, it has the biggest cultural heritage and largest concentration of museums in the country. Belém is a cultural and monumental centre. Its historical and artistic heritage makes it one of the most popular tourist areas of Lisbon.
In Belém, you can find the top three most renowned attractions: the Belém Tower, Jerónimos Monastery, and the Monument to the Discoveries (two of which are UNESCO World Heritage sites), and all of which provide insights into Portugal’s glorious maritime history:

A masterpiece of Portuguese architecture, the Royal Monastery of Santa Maria de Belém, commonly known as Jerónimos Monastery as it was intended for the Order of São Jerome, was classified National Monument in 1907 and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1983. The church, with religious service and visiting hours, and the cloister, secularized in the nineteenth century, form the most visited heritage complex in the country. Created by Cottinelli Telmo (1897–1948) and the sculptor Leopoldo de Almeida (1898–1975), Padrão dos Descobrimentos was first erected in 1940, in a temporary form, as part of the Portuguese World Exhibition, built with perishable materials. It had a light iron and cement frame, while the moulded sculpture had a light iron and cement frame, while the moulded sculpture was made of gypsum (formed of plaster and burlap, and reinforced by a wooden and iron structure).
