Earning a varsity letter is a major accomplishment in for any student and represents an extended committment at a high level of atheltic competition. The requirements for earning a Varsity letter vary from sport to sport. Student athletes are reminded that the Varsity letter is a recognition award determined by the head coach in conjunction with administration based on participation and athletic program representation. Wearing a Varsity jersey is not a guarantee of a Varsity Letter and JV Players may earn a letter/pin in certain situations based on participation during the season. Athletes must meet the earned criteria that is set forth for all Varsity athletes at Franklinton High School as well as the participation requirements for their individual sports.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
Varsity athletes who remain as members of the team in good standing throughout the full season are eligible to earn a varsity letter.
Any student involved in the athletic program who does not receive a letter will receive a certificate of participation.
In cases of extenuating circumstances, exceptions to the standards listed below are permitted with the approval of the coach and the athletic director.
PLAYING TIME CRITERIA FOR EACH SPORT
Baseball & Softball: Must participate in 50% of innings played.
Basketball & Football: Must participate in 50% of quarters played.
Cross Country: Must earn 24 points per season or compete in 80% of varsity meets.
Women Golf: Must participate in 80% of matches during season.
Men Golf: Must participate in 50% of team matches played.
Soccer: Must participate in 50% of halves played.
Swimming: Compete in 80% of all meets.
Tennis: Must participate in #1-6 singles or #1-3 flite doubles for at least 70% of the matches played.
Track & Field: Score at least 18 points during the season in competition against opponents.
Volleyball: Must participate in 50% of the games played.
Wrestling: Must participate in 50% of the team’s matches.
Cheerleading: varsity members must cheer in at least 80% of the games during the combined fall and winter seasons in a single academic year.
Indoor Track: Must participate in 50% of the scheduled meets & qualify for NC indoor Championship Meet.
