Mrs. Riggs' 5th Grade

Welcome to 5th grade! This year we are going to be curious about EVERYTHING! I can't wait to see all the knowledge we gain along the way. It's going to be a phenomenal year!

Week of June 11th -

Important Dates:

June 11th - No Band; Dress as your Favorite Book Character; Literacy Showcase (6 to 7:30 pm); June 13th - Falcon Awards (Grades K to 4); Limo Lunch for Perfect Attendance; June 14th - Fifth Grade Party (1:15 pm to 2:30 pm); June 15th - Last Day of School (2 hour early dismissal); Fifth Grade Falcon Awards (9 to 9:30 am); Report Cards come home; June 17th - Happy Father's Day!!

Math (Hudson) - We will be working on Unit 9. We will be dividing whole numbers by unit fractions, and unit fractions by whole numbers. We will also be multiplying and dividing decimals to tenths and hundredths using concrete models, drawings, and place value methods. We will continue to model fractions as division as well as divide whole numbers with up to 2-digit divisors using place value strategies.

There is no more homework for the rest of the school year. Enjoy the nice weather outside.

Social Studies (Hudson) - This week we will continue to compare and contrast the three colonial regions, and define specialization.

Social Studies (Riggs) - We will explore the different perspectives of Patriots and Loyalists during the Revolutionary times.

Math (Riggs) - We will be working on Unit 9. We will be dividing fractions. We will continue to multiply and divide decimals using the standard algorithm. We will continue to model fractions as division as well as divide whole numbers with up to 2-digit divisors using the algorithm. We will work on the following sixth grade skills: Using the algorithm for decimal computation. Dividing any fraction or mixed numbers.
