Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP): The BIP outlines and identifies effective behavioral supports aligned with data from a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA).
Extended School Year (ESY): Individualized instructional program for eligible students with disabilities that is provided for students beyond the regular school year to ensure that a student’s educational program during the regular school year will not be significantly jeopardized.
Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA): A Functional Behavior Assessment identifies target behaviors that impact a student’s access to instruction and the educational setting. The FBA hypothesizes functions for the behaviors observed then trained school staff collect data on the antecedents, behaviors, and consequences (either positive or negative).
Individualized Education Program (IEP): A legal document that outlines a student’s present levels of performance, measurable academic and /or functional goals and objectives, statements of special education and related services, supplementary aids and specially designed instruction the student requires to make progress towards curricular standards and access the educational environment.
Least Restrictive Environment (LRE): To the maximum extent appropriate, children with disabilities, must be educated with nondisabled peers. LRE is a continuum of supports for students within the general education setting to more restrictive placements in comprehensive school settings, separate public day schools, to non-public settings.
Prior Written Notice (PWN): After an IEP meeting, FCPS will provide written notice of the proposed or refused changes aligned to the student’s eligibility, assessments, re-evaluation, revisions to the IEP, educational placement, and discipline within 5 business days of the IEP meeting.
