All NAHS service hours for the 26-27 school year must be school based.
Hours must be arranged with one of the CHS visual art teachers and agreed upon prior to their approval/completion.
Students will be required to participate in several arts fundraising activities. Including creating winter activity book pages (and a spring submission activity TBD). These are required projects for continued membership.
TWO Winter Activity book pages are due by October 30th.

In 1978, the National Art Education Association began the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) program specifically for high school students, grades 10-12, for the purpose of inspiring and recognizing those students who have shown an outstanding ability in art. The NAHS strives to aid members in working toward the attainment of the highest standards in art areas, and to bring art education to the attention of the school and community.
To become a member of the NAHS, the following requirements must be met:
Completed application
Meet the minimum GPA requirements below.
Overall GPA of 3.0 (or higher)
Minimum GPA of 3.0 in Visual Arts Courses
*Once your completed application is received, the NAHS adviser(s) will obtain a copy of your unofficial transcript to verify you meet the minimum GPA requirements.
Three completed visual arts courses OR Two completed visual arts courses and enrolled in a third.
One of the three visual arts courses must be a level two course.
FCC Art courses do not 'count' for NAHS applications.
$41.75 Dues (induction year), $21 Dues (every year after) *Non Refundable (each year).
Dues pay for our chapter membership, cords (seniors), pins (juniors), and certificates.
THREE (3) 8X8 Induction self-expression artworks with written artist statement (Submitted via Schoology Discussion Board Posts). Artwork must be 2D and/or 3D relief (flat back) for display.
Artwork Plans Due- October 23rd (Schoology Discussion Board Post)
THREE Artworks Due- February 5th Artwork must be 2D and/or 3D relief (flat back) for display.
Artist Statement- February 12th
The student should make arrangements with the art department teachers based on material needs no later than October.
Upon submission, your completed induction series will be evaluated by the CHS visual art teachers. This evaluation will determine if your induction series meets the requirements of our Chapter.
Evaluation Standards: minimum size requirements, aesthetic standards, originality, craftsmanship, and technical quality for induction into our NAHS chapter.
If your induction series does not meet our Chapter standards, you will be removed from the Chapter due to “Completion and quality of your NAHS artwork.”
The student’s induction artwork(s) are kept on display at CHS for one full school year.
Membership Recognition
Seniors will receive certificates and cords/pins prior to the senior awards ceremony. Students will be recognized for membership during the senior awards ceremony.
Underclassmen will be recognized for membership at the underclassmen awards ceremony in May. Students will receive certificates and pins after the awards ceremony.
Attend at least four (4) meetings per year.
If a student is approved for induction into NAHS they are required to complete six hours of art related service to the school. Four hours must be completed by February 26th. Final two hours completed by April 23rd.
All NAHS hours must be school based, arranged with one of the CHS visual arts teachers, and agreed upon prior to their approval/completion.
*Completion of the application and requirements does not guarantee a student entrance into NAHS. The students’ application and requirements will be reviewed by the Catoctin High School Art Department. Other factors will be considered in selecting a member's scholarship, character, attendance, classroom behavior, office referrals, and service to school and community.
