THE CAREER COACH PROGRAM

FCPS Blueprint | MSDE Blueprint | MSDE Career Counseling

The Blueprint for Maryland's Future's legislation outlines the mandate to provide all FCPS Middle and High school students with individualized Career Coaching services. 22 Career Coaches serve our 10 high schools,  13 middle schools, 4 charter schools, Heather Ridge School, CTC, FCC dual enrollment program , virtual high school, and remote virtual program.

Our Career Coaches are 11 month - C&I/CTE Support Staff.

WHAT CAREER COACHES DO?

Career Coaches provide a variety of services to help students learn about the world of Careers. During Middle School there is a focus on self discovery, identification of interests, skills, and abilities. Middle school students will have the opportunity to expand their awareness of careers and explore how they may take steps towards a career pathway when they get to high school.

As students enter high school, Career Coaches help students begin to explore the careers that may have peaked their interests. Students will learn the details required to make informed career decisions. Career Coaches will help student learn about their post CCR pathways, apprenticeship opportunities, and post secondary options.  Career Coaches will also help students become career ready by providing opportunities to gain soft skills, resume skills, interview skills, and more.

HOW CAREER COACHES SUPPORT STUDENTS?

Career Coach services look a little different school to school. Our team adjust to the culture and needs of our student population. Our team adjust to the priorities of our administrators. However different, coaches are meetings students where they are at.

Coaches meet with students for one on one conversations. They pull students in small group sessions. Career Coaches offer co-curricular collaboration opportunities to connect curriculum to careers.  Our team offers guest speakers, field trips, job shadows, and more engaging opportunities to expand career awareness and take deeper dives into careers of interests.

Coaches are regularly and contniuously expanding our events and services to meet student needs.

HOW CAN WE WORK TOGETHER?

Student Referrals

As educators we often build meaningful rapport with student that give us the opportunity to become a trusted adult.  If you engage with a student who you feel may benefit from Career Coaching services, please refer that student to the Career Coach at their school.

In Class Partnership

As a co-curricular program, connecting curriculum to careers is vital in increasing student engagement with our services. We are eager to collaborate with teachers and identify how Career Coaches can support the learning in your classroom.  We can bring in activities, presentations, guest speakers, and more!

Career Coach Awareness

As a new program, we are seeking support from within our FCPS family. Support in creating awareness about our program and our services with students, staff, parents, and businesses. The more partnerships we can forge between our various stakeholders, the bigger our impact can be.
