Participation Requirements – all student-athletes SHALL complete the following in order to be permitted to try out for athletics
Academic Eligibility – The student shall have passed, at the end of the semester, at least five credits with the minimum of 5 D’s (Freshmen not applicable during 1st semester; upper class students only); AND be currently enrolled in at least 5 classes for the current semester toward graduation requirement
VHSL physical – Before participation for in-season or out-of-season activities can take place, the student shall have submitted to the Activities Office their VHSL Physical form filled in and properly signed by both parent/guardian and physician.
The physical must be dated after May 1, 2024 and will be good for the entire 2024 – 2025 school

Sports Registration – The 2024-2025 Sports Registration will open May 9, 2024. Please do not register before this date as your information will not be valid. Student and parent/guardian must submit and complete the online registration information including; the viewing of the Concussion Education Training Course and the Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training videos presented by Acknowledge the viewing of the Athletic Handbook and MHS Social Media Guidelines.
BASELINE CONCUSSION TEST: (Baseline concussion test directions_SPANISH) The baseline concussion test applies to the following contact sports ONLY: Fall Cheer & Competition Cheer, Field Hockey, Football, Volleyball, Basketball, Winter Cheer, Gymnastics, Wrestling, Baseball, Basketball, Lacrosse, Soccer, and Softball. The baseline concussion test is valid for the entire school year & all three sports seasons, unless your student-athlete has suffered a concussion.
Age and Bona Fide Student Rule – The student shall not have reached the age of 19 on or before the first day of August of the school year in which they wish to compete and be regularly enrolled at Meridian High School.
Semester Rule – Students enrolled in High School prior to August 21, 2021 are not eligible per VHSL Semester Rule
Transfer Rule – The student shall not have enrolled in one VHSL member high school and subsequently transferred to and enrolled in another high school without a corresponding change in the residence of his/her parents, parent, or guardian.
