Hard to believe it is September 20 and we are already half way through the first quarter of the year! We celebrated Mary Ellen Henderson's birthday at the middle school this week with a visit from her son, Falls Church's own Ed Henderson, who came and spoke with the student body.
Also this week, as you know from the emails sent home to parents, students in grades 9 and 11 participated in the Signs of Suicide Prevention Program. (Students in grade 7 and new middle school students students will participate next week). This program aims to raise awareness about the signs and symptoms of depression and suicide, and provide strategies for seeking help for oneself or someone else. Students' mental health and wellbeing is paramount to their success in schools. We are so fortunate in FCCPS to have a strong coterie of school counselors, psychologists, social workers, and behavior specialists to support all our students and families throughout their time. We share once again with you these SOS Parent Resources, as part of Suicide Awareness Month in schools.
If you're reading this on Saturday, then we've made it over another of the "Back to school" milestones here on the secondary campus: Our first home football game! Annually, this first game is a big deal as the game serves as a true community-wide event and a great opportunity to build school pride and strengthen community connections. Go Mustangs!
Have a great weekend everyone!
