Falls Sports will be here before you know it! Rising 8th and 9th grade students interested in participating in volleyball, golf, field hockey, cross country, football or cheer must register online and have a certified physical before the deadline of July 17th
We are thrilled to invite your child to attend the Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School Jumpstart Program on August 5th and August 6th, 2025. Jumpstart is a 2-day program that helps students transition from OSES to MEHMS. Students rotate through “class” blocks where they will:
Tour the Building
Have Team Bonding Activities
Practice using locks/lockers
Enhance their communication skills
Eat lunch in the cafeteria
And much more!
Jumpstart will take place on Tuesday, August 5th and Wednesday, August 6th, 2025 from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM in the 6th grade pod (3rd floor of MEHMS). Lunch and transportation will be provided. Please register at this link. The link will be open until June 13, 2025. (This is an extension to the original deadline of M1y 31st.)
Please note: Jumpstart is not mandatory. In years past, approximately 50% of the rising 6th grade class has attended. The information covered during Jumpstart will be covered during the first few weeks for anyone unable to attend.
Thanks and we look forward to welcoming your students as Huskies next year!

Dear 6th Grade Families,
What a milestone we're celebrating today! Your students have officially completed their first year of middle school.
This week has been filled with special moments that capture the spirit of our 6th grade class. During our awards ceremony, it was heartwarming to see students cheering for one another's achievements, showing the positive community they've built together. The energy continued during our 8th grade versus staff volleyball game, where our 6th graders enthusiastically supported both the older students and teachers.
Your students have grown tremendously this year. They've navigated new schedules, developed independence, and formed new friendships. The transition from elementary to middle school is significant, and they should be proud of how they've adapted and thrived.
Thank you for your continued support throughout this year. Congratulations to our amazing 6th graders on finishing their first year of middle school and we can't wait to welcome them back in the fall for their 7th grade year.
Have a great summer!
Rob Carey
6th Grade Administrator
7th & 8th Grade Families,
This was it! We had a great final week with students—celebrating their achievements during award ceremonies, enjoying grade-level celebrations this morning, and ending on a high note with a fun and friendly staff vs. student volleyball game.
It’s been a fantastic year, and we’ve truly enjoyed working with your students. Wishing you all a wonderful summer! We’re already looking forward to welcoming our rising 8th graders back in the fall.
Warmly,
Adam White
7th & 8th Grade Administrator
The Code of Virginia requires all students to be immunized against certain communicable diseases prior to entrance or continuation in Falls Church City Public Schools. We are providing this information so you can get a jump on the 25-26 school year.
Effective July 1, 2021, all students entering seventh grade are required to receive a booster dose of the Tdap vaccine, one dose of Meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY), and one dose of Human Papillomavirus (HPV)* vaccine prior to the start of the 7th grade school year. (*After reviewing these educational materials [English] [Spanish] approved by the Board of Health, the parent or guardian, at the parent's or guardian's sole discretion, may elect for the child not to receive the HPV vaccine.)
Once the vaccinations are complete, please provide one of the following documents to Mary Ellen Henderson Middle School:
An updated immunization record showing that the student has received the Tdap, Meningococcal, and HPV vaccines.
A note on a healthcare provider’s letterhead stating the date(s) the Tdap, Meningococcal, and HPV vaccines were given.
A healthcare provider’s written statement of a permanent or temporary medical exemption.
A notarized Religious Exemption Form which is available here.
Immunizations are available from your student's healthcare provider or the Fairfax County Health Department. The Health Department clinic locations and hours are available online at: Fairfax County Health Dept. or by calling 703-246-2411.
The documents can be emailed to mehmsregistrar@fccps.org or a copy can be dropped off at the school during business hours. Please contact Lakisha Talbert at talbertl@fccps.org if you have any questions. Thank you for your support.
