January Events

First Grade holds their

second annual Invention Convention

Crabapple Lane's first grade students have spent several weeks in January learning about American hero Benjamin Franklin and the many ways that he contributed to our country. Not only was Franklin a founding father helping Thomas Jefferson to write the Declaration of Independence, he was an author and an inventor. Did you know that he invented bifocal glasses, the Franklin stove, the lightening rod, and many more things? After learning all about Mr. Franklin, first grade students took the invention challenge themselves. They learned how to locate a problem, come up with an idea to solve the problem, and then to try to create a solution to the problem they identified. The first grade teachers were so impressed with their ideas, their hard work, and all the great inventions students shared both in person and through video!

Pre-K Students Learn All About Winter

Pre-k just finished their unit on winter, penguins, and polar bears. Students enjoyed building a snowman out of ice and watching it as it changed throughout the day. These smart Pre-K kids also made a “blubber glove” so they could experience how different cold weather feels when to animals that have a fatty blubber layer to protect their bodies.

Kindergarten celebrates the

100th Day of School!

All of the kindergarten classes at CLES celebrated the 100th day of school in January! They spent time writing their thoughts on what they plan to do when they get to 100 years old. They also enjoyed playing games, doing artwork, math centers, and reading books that all centered around the number 100. It was a great day!
