Georgia Wins the National

Championship in Football

by: Campbell Drake

UGA Bulldogs beat Alabama 33 to 18 in the Championship Game. They won 11 games and only lost one. Stetson Bennett IV is the quarterback for UGA. Lots of people thought he wasn’t good enough. He didn’t care what people thought, he just did his best every time. My mom was really happy because she hates Alabama football. Way to go Georgia! Go Dawgs!

Crabapple Lane As We See It

By: Erin Eisele

As a 5th grader, I have really enjoyed my time at Crabapple Elementary. Even though I think that it is an amazing school, I wondered, "What do others think [insert dramatic music]"? To find out I asked students around the school in each grade level some questions about Crabapple.

I asked first-grader Joseph what his favorite thing was about Crabapple. He answered that what he liked most about our school is the classrooms.

Next, I asked two second-graders what they liked the least about Crabapple. They both agreed, saying that the food was what they liked the least. The second-graders did not want to be named in the article.

I asked third-graders, ¨What would you like to be added to Crabapple?¨ Izzy in Mrs Barber's class said that she would like gymnast chalk for the monkey bars.

The question I asked fourth-grader Sydney in Mrs. Daniel´s class was, ¨What was the most fun thing you did at Crabapple this year?¨ She immediately answered with the Fall Festival.

Finally, I asked an anonymous fifth-grader what he or she would miss most about Crabapple after graduation. "Not being able to see my friends in middle school," was the answer I received.

It seems like everyone I talked to likes Crabapple just as much as I do. I found myself agreeing with all of their answers … but I bring my lunch from home, so I can't really speak about the food.

The History of Valentine's Day

By: Olivia Minc

Valentine’s Day is a super special holiday, but have you ever wondered how it came to be? There are many stories but this one started a loooooooong time ago, actually over 1,800 years ago. There was a mean Roman emperor named Claudius II who thought young men who were soldiers should not marry and should stay single to be better soldiers. There was a priest named Valentine who did not agree with this. He thought that young soldiers could marry even though they were in the army. He secretly helped people in the army marry, until the emperor found out. Then Claudius II had Valentine killed. After this the Catholic Church honored his death on February 14th, St. Valentine’s Day. We now honor love just like Valentine on this day.

The Largest Snowstorm

By: Claire Stevens

In my town, you can expect a lot of severe weather. But the snowstorm that happened this January was so extreme that the whole town was affected. That was the only time where the house was flooded all the way up to my bedroom, or the power went out at school.

At 8:00 a.m., it started snowing. I was in my classroom, waiting for school to start. Since I had to wear a superfluous amount of winter gear, it took me quite a while to take it all off! As we waited for our teacher, I thought of all the fun things I could do in the snow: catch snowflakes, sit by the fire, drink hot chocolate, throw snowballs, go sledding, and build snowmen. At noon, the snow started piling up. And then, at 1:00 p.m., our principal said the teacher was unable to come because the roads were closed. At 1:30 p.m The power went out. There was no electric lighting, no heating, and no internet. Since we were very cold, we all rushed to put on our winter clothes. As the day went on, it got colder and, since we didn’t have lunch because the cafeteria was understaffed and all the food spoiled because of the power outage, we were getting hungry. It was almost like we were living in the wilderness, having to forage for food and warmth. Finally, at 2:00 p.m, Our principal announced school would end early, and we would all be sent home.

I had to wait an hour, but my older brother, Hunter, finally picked me up. When I asked where Mom and Dad were, he said the snow left them stuck on the roads. My oldest sister, Layla, told me that the power went out at their school too. My older sister, Polly, called and said that the power just went out. By the time we came home, my younger brother, Max, said the basement was already flooded with melted snow. My younger sister, Nina, was crying because she was scared of the dark. When it came time for dinner, we had very little food that was still good. Our dinner was very small and a little odd, but it was the best we could do. The next day, I woke up freezing. A couple hours later, it was time to go back to bed. Then I noticed a foot of water in my room! I went on to the top of my bed until my room dried out.

When the storm was over, the power came back on and the roads opened, which meant Mom and Dad came home and we could eat our usual dinner. It also meant I could go back to school. And, although it took a long time, Our house dried out. Next time we have a severe storm, I’m going to make sure I’m prepared.

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 1/4 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 1/2 cups M&M’s, divided

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×13-inch pan generously with nonstick cooking spray.

2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, baking soda, and salt. Set aside

3. In the bowl of a stand mixer, cream the butter, peanut butter, and sugars together until smooth, about 2

minutes, scraping down the side of the bowl with a spatula, if necessary. Add in the eggs and vanilla

and mix until combined.

4. Add the dry ingredients until combined, careful not to over mix.

5. Stir in the chocolate chips and 1 cup of the M&M’s.

6. Use a spatula to spread the mixture into the prepared pan. Top with the remaining ½ cup of M&M’s.

7. Bake for 25-35 minutes or until bars are lightly golden brown and set. Don't over bake. You don't want

the bars to be dry. Remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle with flaky sea salt. Let the bars cool in

the pan. When cool, cut Into bars and serve.

Minecraft

By: Parker White and Graeme Ton

In Minecraft you have to mine and build a house as fast as you can. Why? Zombies and skeletons will spawn and try to destroy you. Try to build armor because that will make you stronger to the main characters Steve and Alex. Try to get obsidian, a block, to make a nether portal. A nether portal will teleport you to the Nether. In the Nether you can you can stuff to make an importal

and the creator of Minecraft is Notch.

Roblox

By: Sophia Albritton

Hi I’m Sophia! I will teach you a game called Roblox. Roblox is where you can play lots of games. The best game in my opinion is Adopt Me. This game is where you can collect pets, trade and you can decorate houses. Let’s get back to the game Roblox teaches you also! Some people know that but some people don't. There is also cool stuff you can get like Robux but it costs money. For 80 Robux is 99 cents. $4.99 is 500 Robux and $9.99 is 800 Robux and more. There are also more games like Hide and Seek, Bedwars, Musical Chairs, Tycoons and Blocksburg. Roblox teaches you good things. Adopt me teaches you not to trust strangers. Bed wars teaches you if you fall you still get up! Musical chairs teaches you even if you get out you’re still perfect! Blocksburg teaches you “Money doesn't grow on trees!” These are some of the many reasons why you should try to play Roblox!
