beach party book swap

By: Olivia Maxie and Hilary Leong

Do you want to hear about the Beach Party book swap? It is like being at a beach! You could bring 5 or less books to swap and they would let you choose the same number of books that you can swap with someone else! After we got our books we can pick a spot to read. Mrs. Boyd had the media center set up like we were at the beach with floats, beach chairs, a tent, and even a baby swimming pool! After everyone had a chance to read on the "beach" we played some fun beach ball games with Mrs. Boyd and then we were on our way! It was a great way for us to get some new books just in time for summer! Take a look at the video Mrs. Boyd made to show off the fun we had at our Beach Party Book Swap party!

Field Day!

by: Sydney Mynatt

On May 19, CLES had its first Field Day in the last two years. I think this one was the best Field Day yet. There were so many fun activities, and everyone seemed to have enjoyed themselves. A few of the Field Day stations were javelin throw, long jump, dribble tag, scooter tag, flag tag, fastest tagger, and baton relay. Ironically, we do some of those activities in P.E. There was something for everyone.

My two favorite stations were fastest tagger and baton relay. Fastest tagger is similar to an extreme game of tag. My classmates and I had so much fun playing it. Classes competed against each other for most activities which made Field Day competitive and fun. Since Field Day was very hot this year it’s likely it will be around the same temperature next year. Here is my list of recommendations for next year’s Field Day. Firstly, I would bring a medium to large capacity water bottle. Secondly, I would put on some sunscreen before you even go to school. Lastly, I would eat a medium breakfast so you wouldn’t feel sick but still have enough energy to participate.

It has been a joy to be one of the first school newspaper staff members at CLES. I can’t wait for others to follow in my footsteps. Thank you to all of the teachers who made the newspaper possible. A special thanks to all the teachers who gave up their after school time to come to attend meetings. I’d also like to give a special shout-out to Mrs. Fairrel for creating The Scoop. After an amazing news-filled school year, this is Sydney Mynatt signing off.

Mrs. Boyd made THE BEST video to show off the highlights of our Field Day and Relay Day!

Enjoy watching!

Glow Dance Party!

We have had such a great, successful year with PBIS and helping all our kids understand and demonstrate what it means to:

Be Respectful!

Be Safe!

Be Present!

In honor of all the great decisions, behavior, and hard work of our cardinals, we had a Glow Party in the gym that was tons of fun. Check out Mrs. Boyd's video to show off everyone's fancy moves!

Way to go, Cardinals!

Summer Reading Public Library Program!

Summer time is a great time to read, read, read! We have learned this year how important reading is and that we only get better at reading the more we READ! Both our local libraries are sponsoring Summer Reading programs with great activities, challenges, and rewards for kids and adults alike who choose to spend some time reading this summer! Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a national holiday celebrated on the last Monday in the month of May every year. Memorial Day was started in 1868 as a way to remember soldiers who had passed away fighting for or protecting our county. Many people honor these American heroes by wearing red, white, and blue, having firework displays, going on picnics, or spending time with their family and friends at barbecues and other get togethers. Other people place flags in cemeteries and other places where service men have been buried to honor them. While some people consider Memorial Day the unofficial start to summer, the true meaning is to honor those who gave their lives for all of us. It is a truly patriotic holiday!
