May Students of the Month!!

Congratulations to our May Students! Well done!

A Letter From Mrs. Rachels

Way to go Crabapple Lane Cardinals! You made it to the end of the year. During the 2021-2022 school year, we experienced lots of exciting things. We were able to participate in the Pumpkin Walk, our Fall Festival, holiday parties, eating the cafeteria, recess all together on the playground, Boosterthon, PE back in the gym, assemblies, chorus performances, One Book, One School, Field Days, etc. That is a lot!

I am so proud of each of you and your accomplishments. Our teachers worked hard this year, but so have you. You came to school and were respectful, safe and present every day. Be proud of yourselves. Enjoy your summer. Travel, go to the pool, sleep late, spend time with family and friends, and READ. I look forward to seeing you again in August.

Have a great summer and be safe,

Mrs. Rachels

Dear Crimson

Dear Crimson,

This summer I can't wait to have fun, but I am worried I am going to forget everything I have learned. I have learned a lot of new skills that I will need for the rest of the time I am in school. I do not want to be behind on anything because that thought scares me. What are some ways I can keep exercising my brain over the summer, to be in tip top shape for the next school year?

From,

A Soon To Be 5th Grader

Dear Soon to be 5th grader,

I know remembering things in school can be hard, but remembering things over the summer is even harder of a challenge. One thing you can do to help exercise your brain over the summer is reading. Reading over the summer is good to push your Lexile and help you have better vocabulary which is very important for school. If you do not have many books you can go to one of the public libraries around the area. You can also read online books on one of the many book websites on your chromebooks. Just be careful and make sure you find them and you have used them before.

To add on for math you can practice some problems on a piece of paper and then check it. Or even race an older sibling to see who can finish the problem quickly and correctly. Or make problems for a sibling and then check them. Do not worry about not getting facts! Just try your best and study every day for 30 minutes only and by the time the next school year is here you won't have to worry about anything from years before.

Have a great summer!

Crimson

Fifth Grade Graduation

It is once again time for our Fifth grade students to graduate from Elementary School and move on to Middle School. This is an exciting time for the students and their families! The years at Crabapple Lane have been special ones but they are now ready to leave the nest and head on to bigger things. Our Fifth grade graduation takes place in the morning of our last day of school. Students will have a time to think back on their years here, be recognized for their hard work, and to receive their certificate from Mrs. Rachels. After the big ceremony, students and their families will have time to enjoy a picnic outside for lunch before the last walk of the halls that afternoon. For this special tradition, all the classes have their students and teachers line the hallways to clap, cheer, say goodbye, and wish good luck to all the students that are leaving us for the last time. We will miss our fifth grade students, but we know they will represent Crabapple Lane well at both Flat Rock Middle School and Booth Middle School alike! Good luck to all our Fifth grade friends!

Fifth Grade moves to Middle School

By: Erin Eisele

For all my fifth graders this will be a VERY relatable article. As we all know, fifth graders go from elementary school to middle school at the end of the school year. I am very nervous and excited at the same time. I, a fifth grader, forget my stuff a lot of the time. An example of this is only today I forgot to go to The Scoop! I know but I am not lying. Also in middle school you have 6-7 classes a day so I have no idea how I am going to keep up. And in middle school with the 6-7 classes you might never have any friends in your classes. On the plus side, in middle school you don't have to get up so early all the time. Once again good luck to all the fifth graders from Crabapple Lane, and I hope to see you in middle school.

The History of Flat Rock Middle School

Flat Rock Middle School is one of 5 middle schools in Fayette County. Flat Rock is located in Tyrone, Georgia and is one of the two middle schools that Crabapple Lane Students go to when they leave 5th grade. We wanted to learn more about Flat Rock, so we interviewed Mrs. Melissa Lohr who works to help all students succeed at Flat Rock. Flat Rock opened in 1990 with 715 students. Over the 32 years they have been open, many students have enjoyed great school years learning lots of things and exploring new things! Take a look at some of the cool pictures and information Mrs. Lohr sent!

This sign is part of the 30 years of Flat Rock display that lists all the principals that have led the school!

This wall shows the traits that Flat Rock is proud to display. The pictures that surround are from the last 5 or 6 years of school.

When Flat Rock first opened, they had peacocks and goats. The peacocks don't live at Flat Rock anymore but sometimes can be seen visiting in the courtyard!

Mrs. Gibby started teaching 8th grade at Flat Rock when it opened in 1990. She is still an 8th grade teacher at Flat Rock today! That's awesome!

The History of Booth Middle School

by: Abigail Dingler

JC Booth Middle School is one of the schools in Fayette County that the graduating 5th graders from CLES will attend next school year. It is a school that has been around for a long time. JC Booth was built in 1979. JC Booth has been in the same location for ever since it first was built and opened, until now. There is a new JC Booth that has just been built off Stagecoach Road. The first time the new Booth will be opened to the public is Sunday, May 22nd. New students and current students of Booth and their parents will be able to go see the brand new school! Currently, there are approximately 1,200 middle schoolers that attend Booth. That is twice the amount of students at Crabapple Lane! There are also over 100 teachers and staff.

The principal of JC Booth is Mrs. Deb Troutman. Mrs. Troutman was a math teacher at Booth years ago, and returned as principal this school year. All of the students and staff are really excited about being in a new school. There is a program called “Warrior Camp” that rising 6th graders that will attend Booth in the fall get to attend this summer. It is designed to help new students feel more comfortable with the transition to middle school. Camp attendees learn their way around the school, do team building activities, and even practice opening lockers!

The Mission of JC Booth is to create a community of learners equipped with life skills which enable us to positively embrace the challenges in our changing world. The mascot of the school is the Warriors. There is a Warrior Creed that reminds students to Be Responsible, Respectful, and be Ready to Learn. I am looking forward to being a JC Booth Warrior very soon!

The New Booth

By: Claire Stevens

The Fayette County school system has rebuilt J. C. Booth Middle School. They are doing this because the original school has outgrown it's number of students. It may be used as an elementary school. The board of education bought 37 acres of land. If they were to renovate the school, it would be a disruption for students, parents, and staff. Rebuilding is more efficient and will not cause disruption. It will have a gym and a cafeteria that will be able to house up to 1,400 students. The new school will be accessible from Stagecoach Road and Carriage Lane. It will be connected to the Peachtree City golf cart path, so golf carts will have access to Booth. A few weeks ago, students that go to Booth went to visit their new school. They say that it looks great and they can't wait to start going to the NEW BOOTH!

goodbye Ms. Patterson

By: Joseph Steyn

Goodbye Miss Patterson! You were a great school counselor!! You always had fun stuff for us to do. You are so kind and respectful. We wish you could stay here at Crabapple Lane. We know everyone in the school will miss you. We hope you have a good time at the new school you are going to. We think your new students are going to like you, because you are so good. Good luck from all your Crabapple Lane Cardinals!

your student council at work

By: Lily Cate Moses

The student council has been busy working to do things all around the school from picking things out for the playground, and picking books kids would like that are for all ages. But the main goal for the counsel this year was to hear from the people to know what their classmates wanted for the school. These are some of the great things School Council has worked on for YOU this year!

New library books

First of all the student council worked with Mrs. Boyd to pick out books that kids from Pre-K to 5th grade would like. They looked at different catalogs and settled on a brand called Capstone. The brand made lots of different books we found the students liked. After that we sent a service to kids and asked them for what they liked for books . After a couple of weeks we made groups, and then looked out grade level answers to the service . We looked at what people wanted and what was voted the most and least . The thing is when doing this we had to keep under a certain amount of money . Which was difficult when there was a book every kid wanted but here was another book that would challenge their learning . We would have to choose what kids would want but stay under the budget .

Playground equipment

To add on, the student council is working on getting playground equipment that kids use to play sports. For example one thing they were looking at playground balls because we do not have a lot of them . We are also looking at getting goalie nets for the scorer goals . The thing with getting equipment like this is we need to get a lot of the equipment so every grade will have enough . But we need to get cheap things so that we do not waste all our money that we have . Also with getting cheap things we need to get durable for example we need to get good nets so they last a long time and do not wear out . This is why this year we have paid extra attention to reviews on things on the equipment we wish to get for the counsel .

The food drive

Another thing the student counsel did to help the school is volunteer at the food drive . You might have seen kids standing by a big bin with lots of groceries . Or you might have seen them on the announcements . We were doing this to help fundraise for our food drive . The food drive gives food to people that do not have enough. We donate the food to an organization and then they give it to the people who need it. When they were on the announcements we were telling people about the food drive and to donate to it. We also stood by a big bin and made sure people knew where to put their donations . The food drive was a very good thing to help others .

All in all the student council did a lot for the school this year like helping with library books, playground equipment, and the food drive. The student council also listened to kids in their class and what they had to say and what their opinion was . The student counsel did a lot for our students and spoke from their opinion and made sure to listen to their class. Even though the student counsel did a lot for the school the students did a lot too. They came up with a lot of good ideas for the counsel to share with teachers .
