Crabapple Lane had their spring book fair in the library between March 6th to March 12th. Students were able to pick lots of great books to read. They also had posters, journals, pencils, and more that kids love. Some of the most popular books that kids liked to buy were The Big Cheese, Dog Man: Big Jim Begins, and There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Rainbow. Mrs. Boyd always does a great job of planning our spring book fair at the same time as Read Across America week, which just gives us one more reason to get excited about reading! Thank you Mrs. Boyd!
Every year we read two books together as a school. This spring our book was, The Lemonade War. Each family received one copy of the book to be read aloud at home. We had some fun trivia questions on morning announcements every day as we read and Mrs. Boyd, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Stroud, and Mrs. Walker did a great skit to kick off our book at the House meeting in the gym. It's always fun to read books and discuss them together at school. We love One Book, One School!
Have you ever heard of the Econ games? The Econ games are an economic competition that I was in! Crabapple Lane sent the two winning teams from the school competition to the Federal Reserved Bank which is in ATL GA to compete in the state competition. Crabapple Lane’s fourth grade team were made up of Joseph A, Joseph S, Belle, and Carter. The fifth grade team was made up of Tara, Reagan, Isla, and Jayda. Peeples Elementary was also in Econ games and rode on the same bus as us. The fourth grade team won third place with medals and a trophy. The fifth grade team won 1st with a medal and a trophy and a banner and eternal econ glory. So if you see any of them in the hall give them a silent cheer.
Students from Crabapple Lane participated in FIRST LEGO League's Challenge competition. They engaged in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering - building and programming a LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime robot that navigated the missions of a robot game. They also participated in a research project to identify and solve a relevant real-world problem.
CLES' team, Turtle Technicians advanced from regionals, to super-regionals, and finally, to the state compeition. Competing against 466 teams of students ages 9-14 from across Georgia, they were the only all-4th grade team to make it to the state-level.
Team members are Roman Dickerson, Brecken Raney, Samuel Salazar, Anderson Usry, and Jackson Warren. They are coached by Tom Raney and Mrs. Earnhart.
The fourth grade students are creating their own species from the inspiration of Dr. Seuss. They are sculpting their creations and putting on decorated cardboard wood pieces. Dr Seuss was an amazing author and creator of unheard species.
Fourth grade is going to show what their creation of species they made up just like Seuss himself. Some of the fourth graders did the project with partners. They are creating their species with antler, antennas, and many more animal parts. When they decorate the sculpture they are using materials such as pipe cleaners, beads, leather, and more.
Dr. Seuss was born 1904 in Massachusetts. He wrote lots of childrens books. He won many awards for his books and movies. Dr Seuss wrote about the Cat and the Hat. The books used rhymes to tell the story of the silly cat. Dr. Seuss drew funny pictures for the books. Fourth grade, I hope you enjoy your project.
PreK enjoyed a fun Fairytale Ball on March 21st to end their unit learning about Fairytales! During their day they had a parade to the ball that was celebrated by first grade students, a yummy feast that included Snow White's apples, Cinderella's carriage (cuties), Captain Hook's treasure (Pirate's Booty), Three Pigs' Sticks (pretzels), Three Bears (Teddy Grahams), True Love's Kiss (Hershey Kisses), and Jack's magic beans (jelly beans), and of course the ball in the gym with lots of princesses and fairy tale characters. It was a fun day in PreK!
Dear Crimson,
We have been learning about being a good citizen. What does it mean to be a good citizen at school? I want to do my best at Crabapple and I think understanding this might help me be awesome!
Thank you,
A curious first grader
Dear Curious First Grader,
To start being a good citizen is being helpful, respectful, and kind. How can you do these at school? You can help your friends or the teacher, even being quiet helps your teacher a lot. Additionally, telling your friends to be quiet helps, but say it nicely. Really doing anything for your teacher is amazing. Even being nice to the properties respectful like picking up your trash on the playground. Listening to your teacher and not talking while they are talking is being respectful. Being kind is being nice to your friend or teacher. If you are already doing these things congrats you are being a good citizen.
Love, Crimson
