The inflammatory response of the endothelium, the inner layer of the artery, to mechanical stresses such as wall shear stress and intra-arterial pressure, is believed to be crucial in the initiation and growth of brain aneurysms as well as in the natural history of other vascular pathologies. We are interested in modeling this layer, in order to integrate mechanobiological factors in multiscale biomechanical models of the artery, at tissue level.
Currently, we are working in the development of a continuum model of the endothelium, considering a set of polyhedrical cells and the interaction between them.
