Solo and Ensemble Festival

A Different Way to Play

Solo and Ensemble Festival is an annual event where Winburn Band students get a chance to perform, get help from experts on their instruments, and be recognized!

To participate, students will first decide if they want to perform a solo with an accompanist (piano), a small ensemble with like instruments (woodwind/brass/percussion duet, trio, quarter, quintet or ensemble), or both! A director or private lesson instructor will help choose music and then it's time to practice. Students will have an opportunity to perform their selections for friends and family at our Solo and Ensemble Recital.

Each solo and ensemble will also receive a performance time during our Solo and Ensemble Festival, held annually at Lexington Catholic High School. On the day of the event, students will perform their music for expert musicians and then receive feedback to help continue their musical development. Judges will fill out a score sheet and each performance will receive a rating of Novice, Apprentice, Proficient, or Distinguished.

Tips for Success!

  • Learn your music individually before attempting to rehearse as a group.
  • Set goals for your progress, and keep performance dates in mind.
  • Dress for success! Students should dress professionally for this performance. Concert black dress clothes are perfect!
  • Arrive early to the Solo and Ensemble event at Lexington Catholic High School. You will need time to park, warm-up, and be ready outside the room 5 minutes before your performance time.
