Mrs. Johnnie Bishop is a National Board Certified Music Teacher in the area of Early Middle Childhood Music. Additionally, she holds Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education degrees from Murray State University. She was awarded the 2019-2020 Elementary music teacher of the year by her colleagues in District 7 (Fayette and surrounding counties) and as the 2020 Teacher of the Year by the Kentucky Music Educators Association. Mrs. Bishop is in her 31st year of teaching instrumental and vocal music. This will be her 3rd year as the music teacher and choir director at Wellington Elementary School. Prior to teaching music at Wellington, Mrs. Bishop was the music teacher and choir director at Veterans Park Elementary School for 11 years. Before teaching elementary music, she was the band director at Southern Middle School (Lexington, KY FCPS), Lone Oak Middle School (Paducah, KY), Union City Intermediate School and Middle School (Union City, TN) and Lauderdale Middle School (Ripley, TN). Mrs. Bishop's favorite hobbies are playing and listening to music, cooking, spending time with her family and playing with the family dog, Lily.
For your reference, this Mrs. Bishop's copy of the draft of the Fayette County Public Schools K-5 music curriculum proposed by the office of the FCPS Fine Arts Coordinator and the FCPS Curriculum and Instructional Specialist. This curriculum will go into effect once approved by the district.
