Hello! My name is Catey Steele, and I am the GT Resource Teacher at Wellington Elementary. I am in my 4th year as Wellington GT teacher. I am on my 9th year total in education, spending all 9 of those years at Wellington Elementary. Formerly, I was a 5th grade and 4th grade teacher here.
My philosophy as the GT Resource teacher is to nurture a safe environment for students to inquire, discover, and enrich their learning beyond grade level standards to encourage personal and academic growth. I have also worked each year to grow the gifted and PTP numbers to allow for more equitable identification by fostering common screening practices amongst teachers to identify more diverse populations.
I graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's in Science in Elementary Education. In 2019, I completed my Master's in Literacy at the University of Cumberland's. In 2023, I completed my certification in Gifted Education at Western Kentucky University.
I live in Lexington with my miniature schnauzer, Eloise. I am a proud aunt to sweet Jennings. In my spare time, I partake in crafty tasks: painting, watercolor, needlepoint, and sewing. I love to read. I constantly have an e-book, audiobook, and physical book being read at the same time. A guilty pleasure of mine is TV. I love all types - reality, documentaries, and time-period pieces are my favorites.

We are fortunate to have some new help in our building with PTP and GT groups. Our school's GT and PTP program has grown exponentially over the past 4 years. Ms. Lusk will be joining us two Fridays a month to help run some groups with our students. This is great because it will allow me to collaborate more with teachers and be able to spend some more time with groups that I don't get to see quite as often.
