The Process

Survey Feedback Based on Storyboard

Below are a sample of some of the responses we received via a brief survey we shared.

Participants were asked what their likes, wishes, and wonders were after viewing the video above along with some additional questions listed below.

Likes

  • I like the sense of community the needs drive if the library is used as it's envisioned.
  • Using an example of a fictitious student and her need was helpful to see what and why certain service is necessary.
  • I like the idea of an App for the library, especially one that allows you to reserve tools/spaces as well as schedule help sessions with the librarian. I also like the ability to order food.

Wishes

  • The video caters well to the graduate student perspective. I wish there was an equal focus on undergraduate vantage points. While they may have some different benefits come from the library changes (e.g., opportunities for part-time work--which I suppose graduate students could also connect for as well).
  • It would be better if use one more a student who has different needs.
  • I would like to learn more about the child care space, how it looks & how it works.

Wonders

  • I wonder if we might leverage our resources of K-12 education majors to provide childcare at lesser expense to the college and provide part-time working opportunities for current students to assist with financial needs.
  • Wonder if how realistic those plans are in terms of available resources in the College of Education.
  • I wonder whose responsibility it will be to maintain the app.

What part(s) of the experience could you envision yourself in?

  • I envision myself transitioning to physically visiting the library in College of Education much more than I had in the past--more reliance on the Education Library and less on other campus library spaces.
  • Using an app to reserve a room or services
  • I could see myself using the tutorials & food app.

What part(s) of the experience did you feel disconnected from?

  • I was able to relate to almost every part. As mentioned above, I was not sure how much of them is achievable.
  • Probably the space itself...great details on the app, but what else can I do at the library?

Interview Feedback

The feedback received via interviews was mostly positive. People loved the idea of the app and felt like it wan an innovative idea. There were some questions that came up that were not addressed in the storyboard that concerned some of the interviewees:

  • Who is going to be responsible for the app?
  • Who is going to maintain the tutorials?
  • Who will be responsible for updates?
  • Have you looked at all the different graduate student demographics?
  • Where would the child watcher program be located?
  • Who would watch the children?
  • Will the app be tested?
