Fostering self-esteem and self-love is an important factor in children's development.
Help your child realize all the good things about themselves, and encourage them to continue improving their strengths!
Have your child complete one of the worksheets below or share something positive about themselves.
Ideas: Characteristic, skill, physical trait, personality trait, etc.
If needed, model the expectation by stating what you like about yourself. If they continue to have difficulty, tell them one thing you love about them, what you feel proud of, etc. and encourage to come up with something else.
If your child brings up a negative trait, practice restating it positively, remind them of positive traits, and discuss ways to improve their weaknesses.
Practice positive self-talk and making positive affirmation statements regularly.
When you hear them putting themselves down, remind them or model the use of positive self-talk/affirmation statements.
Make sure you praise them for their good work, characteristics, etc. every day!
