Students enrolled in Medical Sciences will be eligible to participate in observation experiences during the spring semester at local hospitals. We are fortunate to have these agreements with the hospitals. In order to be able to return to this class for the spring semester, there are certain mandatory requirements that must be met.
Students must have a final grade of C or better in all three first semester courses, successful completion of the NOCTI exam and submission of mandatory hospital requirements by the end of the first semester. The first semester courses are prerequisite courses for the second semester. For the safety of the students, staff and patients at the facilities, students must demonstrate sufficient mastery of the information provided in order to continue.
All students must turn in a copy of an updated immunization certificate. This certificate needs to include the following:
2 doses of MMR,
2 doses of varicella or a blood test showing a positive varicella level.
1 dose Tdap
3 doses of hepatitis B or a signed waiver.
Negative Tuberculosis test within the past 12 months (after June 2023)
Must be 2-step TB Skin Test or IGRA blood test
Seasonal Flu Vaccine
COVID-19 Vaccination UK HealthCare requires all students in a UKHC facility, to submit appropriate documentation showing, i) completion of the first vaccination against COVID-19, or ii) completion of the full vaccination series against COVID-19 (i.e., two weeks past completing their complete COVID-19 vaccination series), or iii) approved exemption (medical contraindications or a sincerely held religious belief)
Each student needs to show proof of health insurance. This documentation can be in the form of a health insurance card that that has the student's name and current date or a certificate of coverage from the insurance company in the form of a letter. In past years, the hospitals also accepted the student insurance offered through Fayette County schools.
The facilities have the right to request additional requirements which may or may not include background check and/or drug testing. All documentation must be submitted before the last day of school in December. Failure to do so may result in the student being reassigned back to home school for the spring semester.
