Some Very Special Trees

We have a few trees that have been dedicated to some very special people.

Michael and Lauren Osland

Sweetgum Tree

Michael William Osland (11) and Lauren Grace Osland (5) were both students at Julius Marks when their family's vehicle was involved in a serious collision in 2015.

Michael was entering 5th grade.  He was an avid builder, explorer and leader.  He has a passion for all things electronic and was a whiz on the computer.  He had a great sense of humor while being quiet and respectful.

Lauren was entering first grade.  She loved anything soft and pink.  She was a kind, loving, quiet leader and was so proud to be a reader!  Her smile lit up a room.

They both loved JME, the teachers, and their classmates.  They were great examples and role models for those around them so it seemed fitting to plant a tree with STAR SHAPED leaves!  When you see the leaf stars, remember to be STAR STUDENTS and CITIZENS just like Michael and Lauren.

Mary Henning

Bald Cypress

HENNING Mary Yvonne, 45, wife of Kurt Henning, died Sat, Sep 18, 2010 at Central Baptist Hospital. She was born on Jan 9, 1965 in LaCrosse, WI. Daughter of Donald and Hazel Shulfer.

She was a teacher for several years at Julius Marks Elementary in Lexington, KY and St. Joseph School in Stevens Point, WI. In addition to her husband and parents she is survived by three daughters, Rachael, Lisa, and Rebekah Henning.

The Bald Cypress is known for being resilient, and that is exactly what Mary was.  An example of strength and joy despite adversity.
