Primary Recommendation Committees (PRCs) composed of classroom teachers, the GT resource teacher, and administrators will determine each student's Primary Talented Pool services each year. Services might include individual or group differentiated instruction in the regular classroom, independent study projects, resource services with Mrs. Weiss or other subject specialists, or enrichment activities. PTP students do not all receive the same service options, and services may change throughout the year based on students' needs.
Gifted Identification Process
The Primary Talent Pool program ends in 3rd grade, and formal gifted identification can occur beginning in 4th grade. In FCPS we begin a gifted screening process in 3rd grade. The CogAT and Iowa assessments will be administered to 3rd graders in November. These tests are some of the tools used in identifying students as gifted in specific academic areas and general intellectual ability. Students will also have the opportunity to be identified as gifted in the Visual and Performing Arts (VPA) areas through an audition process. VPA areas include dance, drama, music, and visual art.
