Having trouble paying rent?

  • Landlords cannot evict at this time. Some landlords will work with their tenants and others will threaten eviction

    • Landlords are not allowed to threaten eviction. They do not have the power to evict at this time. No one can legally be evicted.

  • Families need to pay as much as possible toward the rent and keep record.

  • When this pandemic passes and the suspension is lifted: if landlords take the families to court, the documentation of effort made to pay portions will likely prevent eviction.

  • If landlords are threatening eviction, there are several options:

    • Also, the Fair Housing Council will help communicate with the landlord.

    • Lexington City Government is also doing a great job at stopping evictions and helping families.

      • Families can call 311, they will be directed to anyone in city government (such as social services, and their councilmember).
