CTE - Cinematography & Video Production
Pablo Alcala is the cinematography and video editing instructor at Frederick Douglass High School. He began teaching in 2017 after a career in journalism.
Prior to teaching, Mr. Alcala was a staff photographer for the Lexington Herald-Leader from 2001-2017. He began working with video in 2006 providing content for Kentucky.com. He earned a bachelor’s of journalism in photojournalism from the University of Texas at Austin and also worked for the Vero Beach (FL) Press Journal and has interned for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Santa Fe New Mexican, Palm Beach Post (FL), Fort Worth Star-Telegram and Bloomington (IN) Herald-Times.

Special Education
"I am in my 15th year of teaching students with Learning and Behavior Disorders. I taught for 11 years at another high school in town before coming to Frederick Douglass the first year we opened. I am also the Head Cheerleading coach, Student Council Sponsor and Pep Club Sponsor. It has been such a unique and fun experience being at a school from the day the doors opened. I am so proud of what we have accomplished in such a short amount of time. It's always a great day to be a part of the Douglass Family. "
CTE - Computer Literacy
"Hello! I'm Melissa Davis, the Computer Literacy instructor for 9th -12th grades. This is my 10th year teaching and my 2nd year here at FDHS. I have my B.S. in Business Education from EKU, Masters in Business Administration from MSU, and finishing my Rank 1 this year at EKU. Currently, I live in Richmond with my husband, two daughters, two dogs, and two goldfish! Go Broncos!!!"
Social Studies
"Lexington native and graduate of the University of Kentucky where I received my BA and MA degrees. I love my family (wife, a daughter, and son) and enjoy the little bit of quality time we get to spend together. I love sports and enjoy helping kids reach their potential and enjoy watching them achieve their dreams into adulthood. I love the Tech Academy and enjoy learning and helping kids do things in the fastest growing and highest paying field of study."

MS in Computer Science degree and Over 30 years experience leading Software Tech Sales, Software Services, and Software Development teams producing innovative communication/collaboration products. Numerous Leadership awards across Development, Services, and Sales. Transitioned to teaching in 2017 at FDHS. Father of 4 and Grandfather of 6 :)

Kari Patrick currently teaches English Language Arts at Frederick Douglass High School in Lexington, KY. Kari has taught in both rural and urban schools across the state and was named the 2016 Kentucky Council of Teachers of English High School Teacher of the Year. She loves using passion projects in her classroom to spark student interest and inquiry. Kari is passionate about supporting new teachers and elevating the voice of teachers and students in policy creation.

"Hello! I am Mrs. Snow. I have been at Douglass since 2018. Before my time here, I spent 12 years tutoring privately and helping kids prep for the ACT. I have six children of my own and a very nerdy husband. I LOVE math, but more than anything I love helping kids who hate math learn to love math. I am so happy to be at Douglass and in my happy place in the classroom."

"I have been in Fayette Co. School system for over 27 years, I have worked at every level i.e. elementary school, middle school and high school. Moreover I have been very involved with extracurricular activities such as Football for 28 years and Basketball for 5 years at middle school and high school levels. My Current position is School counselor for the Tech Academy. I enjoy working here and I look forward to greater things to come."
