Fairmount Avenue United Methodist Church is passionate about seeing wholeness and healing in the world for all people and all creation. Through justice and compassion ministries, as a community we advocate for the needs of the marginalized, oppressed, and care for creation by connecting with a variety of organizations and ministries and learning opportunities. It is both an expression of faith and building of faith.
As we look to the teachings and work of Jesus, we see that Jesus was most often found with the marginalized and oppressed. Through Jesus' teachings we are challenged to seek wholeness and inclusion for all people. Through Jesus' actions we are inspired to seek physical and spiritual healing for all people. It is our faith in Jesus that calls us deeper into this work, seeking the Kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven.

Currently we are focusing on addressing issues relating to homelessness, food insecurity, creation care, and advocating for full inclusion of persons of all sexual orientations and gender identities. We also have a long standing relationship with St. Albans Church of God in Christ, worshipping and partnering in ministry as a way to practice and promote unity in the church.
We do this work through a variety of ways including political advocacy, hands on involvement, raising awareness through education, and a variety of donations/fund drives.
Whether you are new to the church or been a part of the FAUMC community for decades, there is a place for you.

Witness Ministries October Updates
FAUMC and Witness Ministries continue to help those in our surrounding community through volunteerism and donations (First Fruits to Keystone, Meals at Simpson Shelter). We’re extending this support via donations to our global community.
Over the next several weeks, we'll be supporting efforts to provide food, medical supplies and other items to those suffering from displacement, starvation and illness due to disasters in Gaza, Pakistan and other locations around the world.
We’ll be donating funds to UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief, partnering with International Orthodox Christian Charities, IOCC), Doctors Without Borders, World Central Kitchen, the Cecil & Iris Chaudhry Foundation (Pakistan) and directly to Sara Flores to support a Methodist school as part of her mission in Ecuador.
These organizations work on the ground and will have immediate impact to support those in need. Look for articles about these organizations and the work they’re doing on the church website. Printed copies available upon request.
Want to help? On October 5th (World Communion Sunday), November 2nd and December 7th, there will be special church offerings and/or opportunities to donate additional funds to these causes.

People Experiencing Homelessness
There is so much work to do in this world to increase wholeness and healing. At Fairmount Avenue UMC, we have focused much of our compassion and justice work on addressing issues related to homelessness and food insecurity.
With lots of ways to be involved, you can help, too!
-Every Meal: Every Friday, volunteers from FAUMC deliver food packs to back packs of families in our community who are facing food insecurity at Randolph Heights Elementary School. Through a partnership with our local elementary school and Every Meal, this program puts food in the homes of families who have an immediate need for food.
-First Fruits: Every first Sunday of the month, people bring food donations for our local food shelf, Keystone Community Services. Bring a non-perishable food item to worship and it will be collected during the worship service and delivered to the organization to address needs in our immediate community.
- Throughout the year, people from FAUMC prepare and serve dinner at Simpson Housing Services in Minneapolis, including Thanksgiving Dinner every year for people experiencing homelessness!
- In the Summer and in 2018 in the fall, FAUMC has partnered with Project Home to provide safe housing for families experiencing homelessness in our city. We partner with other churches to provide volunteers as well as host in our building families.

We believe our faith calls us to care for the earth and the life on it, including responding to the climate crisis. We do this through practical actions, support of systemic change, and study and prayer. Examples of current and past initiatives:
Installing new more energy efficient windows and LED lighting
Setting up recycling and food waste composting for the building
Using compostable dishes when not washing dishes
Community bike rides and “Know Your Biker” newsletter features
Adopting five storm drains near the church - sign up to help for a month
Educational opportunities such as book discussions
