We LOVE kids at Fairmount Avenue UMC and offer opportunities for our youngest people to develop faith, make friends, and have fun! Whether in the worship service or service projects, the children's ministry at FAUMC is designed to develop curious, life-long followers of Jesus who have skills to think about their faith and then put it into practice.
The last Sunday of each month this summer is casual worship. After Children's Time, kids are invited out to the church lawn for fun and games.

Cooking Camp returns! We had so much fun with Cooking Camp last summer, that we're doing it again. This summer, dive deeper and celebrate the people, animals, and land that are all so important in cooking and eating, sharing and sustainability. The week will conclude with a visit to Urban Ventures Farm in Minneapolis.
Cooking Camp is Monday, August 3 through Thursday, August 6, from 6-7:30pm at Fairmount Avenue UMC
Open to kids entering PreK-6th Grade for the 2026-27 school year

We want our kids to love church from the earliest age. Nursery care is available on Sunday mornings during worship for children age 5 and younger. The Fairmount Avenue UMC nursery is a caring and nurturing environment where kids first meet Jesus, experience the joy of community and friends, and just have fun.
In Sunday School, our goal is to learn about the Bible and hear what Jesus teaches us. We explore different Bible stories, apply the Bible to our everyday lives, and develop spiritual practices like prayer. Sunday morning classes are age-/grade-specific so that each group may engage with God’s word through age-appropriate activities and applications. Classes meet upstairs in the Education Wing.
Explorers (PreK-5th Grade) Sunday School is Sunday mornings from 9-10am. Email Ashton (ashton@faumc.net) for more information.
TGIW activities are about more than Bible study; they are a chance to make friends, build community, and explore how we can live out our faith. At Fairmount Avenue UMC, we believe that “church” is much bigger than a building, and our Wednesday program reflects that. We play games, create, participate in service activities, and even go on the occasional field trip. TGIW activities are combined-age, PreK-5th Grade together. We meet upstairs in the Education Wing.
Explorers (PreK-5th Grade) TGIW is Wednesday evenings from 6:30-7:30pm. Email Ashton (ashton@faumc.net) for more information.
Music is a central part of Fairmount Avenue UMC, no matter your age. Kids learn the fundamentals of music, the experience of playing an instrument, and the joy of worshipping through music as they sing in the choir or ring handbells in the bell choir. The choirs participate in Sunday worship monthly.
Children's choir (PreK-5th Grade) and bell choir (K-5th Grade) rehearse on Sunday mornings at 10am and Wednesday evenings at 6pm.
At Fairmount Avenue UMC we are intentional about the faith development of our young people. Mid-way through their time in Explorers Children's Ministries (3rd Grade), kids deepen their involvement in Sunday morning services and individual faith practices.
Third Grade Bible Presentation
Each of our 3rd Graders is presented with their very own Bible to encourage them to explore God’s word for themselves. Throughout this year, they will begin to learn the mechanics of the Bible (e.g., What is a book/chapter/verse? How do I find..?), a foundational skill for the rest of their faith journeys.
Acolytes
Acolytes serve a meaningful role in Sunday worship, opening the service by lighting candles on the altar and closing the service by extinguishing the candles and carrying the light out of the sanctuary in a "sending forth."
3rd Graders (and older) are invited to be part of Sunday worship as an acolyte. Those who want to participate, or are just interested in learning more, attend a class to learn about the importance of light during worship and what it means to help lead worship.
