The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at FAU has a longstanding tradition of engaging in outreach and popular science initiatives. Since 2019, it has hosted a cryptography camp for girls, Young CryptograpHers, along with other mathematics-focused programs, such as Math Days.
Building on the growing demand and success of these activities, we are excited to announce the launch of CryptoTeens in South Florida, a summer camp open to all high school students starting in 2025!
Cryptography is an essential part of our daily lives—it protects our online privacy, secures medical and financial records from hackers, and underpins the security of countless digital systems. At its core, cryptography is built on the power of mathematics, which provides the foundation for creating and breaking codes. Yet, despite its importance, cryptography remains a fascinating mystery to most people!
CryptoTeens in South Florida is designed for highly motivated high school students eager to explore the world of cryptography, with a special focus on post-quantum cryptography—a cutting-edge field that ensures security even against quantum computers.
The camp program contains a variety of exciting activities, including lectures by FAU faculty who are experts in the field, inspiring talks by invited speakers from industry or academia, and interactive, hands-on exercise sessions designed to make learning fun and engaging!
