Missouri Connections and Career Planning

This is a great resource that has various interest and skills inventories to help students find the career that best suits them. There are also college searches for the entire United States with links to the actual college website. Quick college comparisons of size, tuition, programs of study, etc. can be completed. Also, students can keep a log of all the volunteer hours, community service, clubs and organizations, and jobs that they have completed, and then the information will be compiled automatically into an updated resume if needed. 

Throughout the year freshmen, sophomores, and juniors will have sessions with the HS counselor in which students will complete specific inventories in Missouri Connections. 

Individual Career and Academic Plan

Missouri requires every student to have an ICAP (Individual Career and Academic Plan). This ICAP will be kept in two phases: 1) In each student's Google Classroom set up through the Counseling Department the ICAP will track the courses students have taken or wish to take; 2) In each student's Missouri Connections account the ICAP will track their assessment results and other information they add to Missouri Connections. 

Students will have access to both ICAPS at all times and can update them as they wish. These ICAPS will be discussed during each student's yearly meeting with the counselor and will be updated at least yearly when the classes meet with the counselor for career planning.

This survey is meant to help students narrow down which career clusters hold the most interest for them. Then they can explore occupations within those clusters.

Nichols Career Center

Late fall of sophomore year, all sophomores will meet with the counselor from the Nichols Career Center to hear about the programs offered. Then, interested sophomores will have the chance to visit Nichols. After the tour, those sophomores who are interested in attending Nichols will be asked to complete an application. 

The applications will be due before Christmas break, so they can be processed before they are due to Nichols. By the end of the February, sophomores who were accepted to Nichols should know. 

Students applying to Nichols will be graded based on their GPA, discipline and tardy record, level of interest and experience, attendance record, and teacher/counselor feedback. Even though students don't apply until sophomore year, each of these categories includes freshman year records as well. This rubric will go to Nichols, so they can decide which students are accepted.
