In 1916 in Crossgates on the other side of Leeds a factory was created primarily for World WW1 to make Shells and Bombs. Crossgates was a good place for Barnbow as there was lots of space. Barnbow was then created at an amazing 400 acres.

Barnbow was the 1st national shell filling factory that filled many of shells and bombs that were let off on the battlefield. Working in Barnbow was a choice most people made once all the men had left
