Last Week
Due to inclement weather, both of F&M doubleheaders last week were postponed.
Last Time vs. Dickinson
Playing a road doubleheader in the 2023 meeting, the Diplomats dropped both contests to the Red Devils. After posting four runs between the third and fourth innings, Dickinson added on to its lead with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth. With F&M failing to get on the board for the entire game, the Red Devils came away with a 6-0 shutout win.
One again trailing to start the contest, the Diplomats fell behind 3-0 after the second inning, but quickly recovered with a three-run top of the third to tie the game. In the top of the sixth, Kayla Kilmer came through with an RBI single to score Olivia Henderson and put F&M on top for the time on the day. Two batters later, Devon Witt brought Kilmer home on a RBI single, as the Diplomats gained a two-run lead. However, with the bases loaded and nobody out for Dickinson in the bottom of the seventh, the Red Devils got to within one after a run was walked in. The very next at-bat, Zoe Kleeblatt singled up the middle to knock in two more runs and win the game. Read the full recap here.
Last Time vs. McDaniel
Splitting a two-game set at home in 2023, F&M won a 6-2 game in the front end of the doubleheader before dropping a 9-7 decision in the second tilt. Game one was highlighted by a five-run bottom of the third for the Diplomats, in which F&M sent nine batters to the plate and had three extra-base hits. In the circle, Ainsley McClure allowed just two runs in a complete game effort.
Getting off to a fast start in the second game, the Green Terror took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first and never looked back. Despite a two-run home run by Kat Gunther in the bottom half of the frame, McDaniel added four more runs between the fifth and sixth innings to grow its advantage to seven. Later trailing 9-3 in bottom of the seventh, F&M loaded the bases with nobody out, but saw its next two batters get out without bringing a run in. Gunther then walked home a run before Hannah Matusiak cleared the bases with a three-run double to make it a two-run game. The rally fell just short, however, as Alexa Klepper was retired on a game-ending ground out in the next at-bat. Read the full recap here.
