Bobby Falese had himself a weekend, plating six on five hits this past weekend against Guilford and Roanoke. The sophomore infielder totes a .615 slugging percentage, as two of his three hits went for extra bases.
Will Samuel also had a fantastic opening weekend, finishing 6-13 at the dish and scoring four times. The senior first baseman also added three walks to start the season with a .563 OBP.
The Diplomats bullpen had a solid start to the season, as Dan Galef, Stephen Turzai, Bijan Anvar, and Carter Davis combined for 9.2 innings of work, allowing just two runs. Galef pitched four innings of one-run baseball in relief in game one against Guilford.
Greg Nieskens also impressed, striking out seven batters in 3.2 innings of work in game two against the Quakers. The lefty is now averaging 12.34 K/9 in nine appearances for the Diplomats.
F&M continued its solid record when scoring more than six runs, now sitting at 49-18-1 in the Ryan Horning era when knocking in 6-9 runs. The team is 94-23-1 under Horning when scoring more than five.
The Diplomats can't wait for March to arrive, sitting at 21-8 over the last three seasons in the third month, including 8-2 in their last two. It's the best month of the year for Horning's crew, sitting 65-40 (.619) in the month since 2014.
