Lying/Cheating

The student may:

• Appear suspicious, tense, nervous, uptight, etc.

• Seem like they are hiding something

• Seem to be looking out the window or in a certain direction a lot

• Frequently look up to check on the teacher or adult

• Tattle often

• Involved in a lot of conflict

• Tells unlikely or inflated stories

• Frequently

• Have difficulty taking responsibility

• Have frequent incidents

• Have frequent reports from others

• Blame others

• Only seem to tell half the story or give partial details

What can I do?

• Second Step lessons

• Create classroom norms and expectations

• Acknowledging positive behavior

• Avoid power struggles

• Call parent or note home

• Logical consequence

• Reflection sheet

• Speak in calm and neutral tone

• Take away privileges

• Take away unstructured or free time

• Talk one on one with student- OARS Technique

• Develop, "Get me out of Trouble Plan"

• Use calm neutral tone

Development of intervention support for lying/cheating may be referred to the school social worker if these are repeated behavior concerns, but there is no accompanying writeup.

Disciplinary referrals may go to an administrator.
