Through the national demand to defund the police, many have been newly introduced to abolition; but the present moment has been made possible by over two decades of abolitionist organizing. Abolition is a practice for building a safer future without police and prisons. Are you curious about abolition? Anxious about what it may mean? Or maybe deeply rooted in abolitionist struggle? Join this training session to learn about abolition as a vision, analysis, and practical organizing tool. We will explore what we can do to eliminate the unjust systems of imprisonment, policing, and surveillance and create lasting alternatives that transform our communities and keep us safe.
Well before the pandemic Dallas residents had been fighting for equitable neighborhoods and housing. This session will explore the historic and present context of neighborhood inequities and their impact on residents, the many housing problems low income families face today and the lack of options they have to move to more equitable neighborhoods where they believe their families may better thrive. Attendees will learn about steps being taken by advocates and everyday residents and how they might get plugged into these efforts.
It can be challenging to understand and tell our stories and understand how we fit in the anti-racist movement. Join Rev. Rachel Triska to engage in a spiritual exploration of our stories as they are impacted by race and racism that will help you better understand yourself, your role in the movement, and how our stories can be powerful tools for change!
One’s mental health plays a vital part in their ability to operate at full capacity. In this breakout session, we will explore the components of mental health, how it informs our liberation work and strategies to implement to avoid burnout.
