The Greater Cleveland Solo and Ensemble Contest is held each year. The high school and middle school contest is held in February. A school within the group of music directors will host. It is different every year for each contest.
Students can have the opportunity to perform in front of a judge for a written and verbal critique at this contest. You can choose to do a solo, duet, trio, quartet, and so on. You can also do any combination of instruments. Music will be picked out after the holiday concert in December and students will start preparing for contest during class. It is highly recommended that students take private lessons if they are performing a solo. A soloist must also prepare scales and perform with an accompanist. Accompanist fees include one rehearsal and a performance for around $40-$60. It is also highly recommended to meet with your ensemble outside of class on a regular basis to have a successful performance.Â
