Math on my Mind

Reasoning is important in math.

Above left: How can you use the numbers 1-9 without having any consecutive numbers touching ? There are several solutions. If you discover another one, email me, and I will post your solution. Thanks! sreindel@fairport.org

Above: Pattern Blocks pictures: Using the chart, how much are each of these pattern block creations worth? How will you go about solving this? Let me know how, and what your solutions are. sreindel@fairport.org I can't wait until we are all back together building pattern block math together.

Welcome to my math website. Here you will find information about learning mathematics, pictures of students involved in learning mathematics, and evidence that MATH IS FUN!

*Keep checking back to find new information, pictures, activities, and web links.

My goal as a math teacher is to grow a positive math mindset in my students, and create successful mathematicians who happen to be in second and third grade. Everyone can be a math person. We may need to grapple, to ask questions, try and try again, but we all have the power to think and reason...and enjoy the math.

If 2 dogs named Bailey and Duncan each walked 2 miles, and Mrs. Reindel walked both of them together, how many miles would they have walked ? How do you know?

If Mrs. Reindel fed Bailey 2/3 cup of dog food, and Duncan also got 2/3 cup of dog food, would they have consumed more or less than a cup of food at one meal? How do you know?

Duncan loves to catch and retrieve tennis balls. He has even mastered putting two tennis balls in his mouth at one time! Duncan can retrieve 5 tennis balls in ten minutes. How many tennis balls might he be able to retrieve in twenty minutes? How do you know?

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

After twenty minutes, Mrs. Reindel's arm is tired of throwing balls. What should Duncan do for the next twenty minutes? Why do you think this?

Duncan turned 11 years old on MARCH 27, 2020. What year was he born?
