American Revolution Bicentennial Map of Bergen County circa 1976
To commemorate the United States Bicentennial (1976) in Bergen County, the Bergen County Cultural and Heritage Commission drew a map depicting the events that took place in Bergen County during the Revolutionary War. Using the map key, you are able to see where skirmishes, attacks, and/or battles took place, and where General George Washington established headquarters.

During the Revolutionary War, for four days in July of 1778, General George Washington, Alexander Hamilton, John Laurens, and the Marquis de Lafayette, stayed at The Hermitage. The Hermitage is located in Bergen County in Ho-Ho-Kus!
