Myra A. Lopes was a teacher for the Fairhaven Public schools as well as a prolific local historian. She devoted a great deal of time documenting the important people, places, and events in Fairhaven.
Myra Lopes graduated from Fairhaven High School in 1950. After attending Bridgewater Teachers College (now Bridgewater State University), she came back to teach in Fairhaven. Later in life, she became the President of the Board of Trustees for the Millicent Library, and a Historian of the Joshua Slocum Society International. She would, at one time, provide tours of Fairhaven for new teachers so that they could become familiar with the history that surrounds the school.
In addition, she had many local publications. Below are a few that we have in our library.
