TRYOUT INFORMATION
Must be registered on through the FWHS Athletic Registration
Updated Physical must be on file with the FWHS school nurse
All Sailors must return signed Fairfield County Sailing League Waiver Agreement and Emergency Information Form
All Sailors must return signed Pequot Yacht Club Waiver Form
Sailors must demonstrate the following proficiencies:
Sailors must pass a swim test held in the harbor. Sailors must swim in their dry suits around a safety boat and demonstrate their ability to withstand water temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
Students must pass a sailing test conducted during team try-outs and demonstrate their ability to skipper or crew a 420.
Students must pass a written examination demonstrating their knowledge of safe boating and the racing rules of sailing.
This is NOT a beginner or “learn how to sail” program offering. The above tests are designed to demo
Thursday, March 12th - Boat setup and swim check
Monday, March 16 - Wednesday, March 18th - Tryouts
Shuttle transportation will be provided from FWHS to practice. Sailors need to arrange transportation home from practice. The sailing venue for spring 2026 is still to be determined. It will either be Pequot YC (Southport), or Sailaway Sailing Center (Captain's Cove, Bridgeport).
Required equipment:
Dry suit
Life jacket
Sailing boots, or other footwear (i.e. Converse sneaker), that fits outside your drysuit booties
Warm hat; warm layers under drysuit
