A great number of people turned to music, art, and literature to express their beliefs during this turbulent time in the country. Some of the music that came out in the 1950s and 1960s reflected a desire for social equality. While many of the songs here are concerned with issues stemming from the Civil Rights Movement, you might notice that protest songs eventually started to deal with anti-war sentiment as well.
This was Dr. King's last speech, given one day before he was assassinated in Tennessee.
