WHO • The NACRP Facilitator Certification Program is for you if you...
Attended multiple workshops in the VISION | POWER | SOLUTIONS online series.
Are accountable to a frontline community. [In this context, accountability means having a direct and trusting relationship, deep commitment, follow-through, and deference to a given community-based organization, or resident population in a frontline community. Frontline communities are directly impacted by a range of economic, environmental, and social issues resulting from racialized oppression and/or economic exploitation.]
Are interested in deepening your practice as a community-based facilitator and practitioner of community-driven planning.
Have the opportunity to carry out some form of community-driven planning (at any scale) in 2023.
WHAT • The NACRP Facilitator Certification Program is...
Being launched for the first time this year through the NACRP, convened by the People's Climate Innovation Center, and designed & facilitated by Facilitating Power along with special guests.
Designed to prepare experienced community-based facilitators to implement the principles and practices of community-driven planning [as described in the VISION | POWER | SOLUTIONS series and in the Framework on Community-Driven Climate Resilience Planning.]
Accepting applications through November 17th, 2022.
Launching in January 2023.
Building a referral network of community-based facilitators experienced in community-driven planning and evaluated by a frontline organization, as well as by a fellow community-based facilitator. The purpose of the referral network is to ensure that localities are able to connect with and contract "credentialed" facilitators accountable to frontline communities in their region.
WHY • NACRP's Facilitator Referral Network is needed to...
Meet the need for community-driven planning, in communities working to address the pandemic, economic crises, ecological crises, climate impacts, over-policing, and other threats to community health and well-being.
Build our collective capacity to replace top-down planning models, that replicate the power dynamics that resulted in the problems our communities are facing.
Cultivate local facilitation capacity to ensure rootedness and accountability to frontline communities, as opposed to bringing in outside facilitators or corporate firms.
Share the stories of impact from communities reclaiming our power to advance our own solutions to current crises.
Provide community-based facilitators with a community of practice to support growing our shared practice.
HOW • The Facilitator Certification Program • Jan - Sept. 2023 entails...
Actively participating in one 2.5-hour whole group session per month (focused on facilitation skills, and peer consultancies in the nuts & bolts of community-driven planning).
Joining an in-person gathering of the cohort in Oakland, CA • February 1-3 • (to build relationships and deepen skills in facilitation of community-driven planning methods rooted in popular education).
Designing &/or facilitating a community-driven planning process in and with a frontline community to which you are accountable (at any scale, anytime between Jan - Sept 2023. It could also be the update of an existing community plan).

Between October - December: we will not be meeting formally as a cohort but participating facilitators will have time to continue working on their planning process, secure an evaluation from someone who participated in the planning process as well as a reflection from a peer in the cohort, and to write their blog about the experience.
