Afternoon Coaching System
Afternoon Coaching System
Our program, S.T.O.R.M. Team (Special Team of Role Models), operates actively within elementary and middle schools in after school programming, providing support up to five days a week with a focus on three key components: Connect, Engage, Support.
CONNECT
Our S.T.O.R.M. Team program fosters a strong, supportive connection with students, acknowledging their individual experiences and emotions. Through SEL coaching sessions, we provide an innovative platform for students to navigate challenging emotions and experiences, transforming them into opportunities for personal growth. By guiding students through specific transformations, such as channeling frustrations into constructive actions and managing anxiety to concentrate on goals, we empower them to connect with their emotional journeys. Ultimately, our program cultivates resilience, gratitude, and clarity, ensuring students develop the essential skills needed to thrive both academically and personally.
ENGAGE
Once students are connected, our Enrichment Coaching Curriculum engages them in a meticulously designed program that combines inspiration, effort, and skill-building. Our dedicated coaches provide personalized guidance, tailoring sessions to meet each student's specific needs and goals. This targeted approach supports students in developing essential social-emotional learning skills, empowering them to make informed decisions. Additionally, our curriculum fosters deep engagement by integrating inspiration and skill-building, ensuring that students not only feel motivated but also develop practical skills to enhance their emotional and social competencies. This holistic approach equips students with the tools they need to succeed academically and personally, fostering their overall growth and development.
SUPPORT
Supporting students lies at the heart of our S.T.O.R.M. Team approach, guided by a holistic philosophy that considers various factors influencing a child's decisions and experiences. Our goal is to educate and inspire the whole child, guiding them towards self-improvement. Support is delivered through in-person coaching sessions where students participate in missions focusing on fitness, nutrition, and character-building. Additionally, sessions foster crucial skills like mindfulness, self-awareness, and emotion recognition, empowering students to navigate their emotions with resilience and confidence. This comprehensive approach ensures that students receive the support they need to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
What is the S.T.O.R.M. Team Curriculum?
The S.T.O.R.M. Team curriculum is designed for 1st to 6th-grade students, aiming to inspire them to become the best versions of themselves, known as Role Models. This enrichment curriculum engages students through missions in fitness, nutrition, and character development, fostering leadership skills while highlighting the impact of health habits on mental and physical well-being.
Eligibility and Philosophy
The curriculum is inclusive, built on the belief that anyone can be a role model regardless of specific talents or natural abilities. It emphasizes the importance of choices, habits, and effort in shaping one's role model status. Each student's positive mindset is nurtured through the creation of a supportive team environment among all participating students.
Structure of a Typical Session
A typical S.T.O.R.M. Team session lasts 45 to 60 minutes and includes reciting the 6 STORM Promises, warm-up exercises, and engaging in fitness, nutrition, and character missions. The session concludes with a debrief and the teacher awarding a Champion’s Wristband to one student. The curriculum encourages creativity, allowing teachers the flexibility to modify activities to maximize student engagement.
The STORM Promises
The curriculum is anchored by the 6 STORM Promises, serving as a pledge for students to embody the qualities of a role model and leader. Teachers are encouraged to acknowledge and praise student behaviors aligned with these promises during each lesson, fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.
Curriculum Structure
In the kickoff lesson, students learn all 6 STORM Promises, while subsequent lessons consist of three missions: Fitness, Nutrition, and Character. Fitness missions involve practicing specific exercises daily, Nutrition missions explore the impact of food on the body, and Character missions focus on managing emotions and transitioning to a positive mindset.
The S.T.O.R.M. Team offers a variety of benefits for students participating in after-school programs. These benefits are designed to enhance overall well-being, emotional health, and community spirit among students. Here’s how the S.T.O.R.M. Team can make a positive impact:
Reduces: Student Inactivity
One of the key benefits of the S.T.O.R.M. Team is its ability to significantly reduce student inactivity. Our program includes physical activities and fitness missions that encourage students to move and stay active. By integrating engaging physical exercises into our sessions, we ensure that students spend less time being sedentary and more time improving their physical health.
Improves: Emotional Processing Skills
The S.T.O.R.M. Team places a strong emphasis on developing emotional processing skills. Through our innovative SEL (Social and Emotional Learning) coaching sessions, students learn to navigate and transform their emotions. Whether it's turning frustration into motivation, anxiety into focus, or jealousy into joy, our program equips students with the skills they need to process their emotions constructively.
Supports: Healthy Eating Initiatives
Our program also supports healthy eating initiatives. We incorporate nutrition education into our sessions, helping students understand the importance of a balanced diet and making healthier food choices. By promoting healthy eating habits, we aim to improve students' overall well-being and energy levels, both of which are crucial for their growth and development.
Promotes: Self-Discipline
Self-discipline is a fundamental aspect of the S.T.O.R.M. Team. Our coaching sessions and missions are designed to instill a sense of discipline in students. Whether it’s setting and achieving personal goals, managing their time effectively, or staying committed to their tasks, students learn valuable self-discipline skills that benefit them in all areas of life.
Fosters: Supportive Team Culture
Lastly, the S.T.O.R.M. Team fosters a supportive team culture. Our program encourages students to work together, support one another, and celebrate each other's successes. This creates a positive and inclusive environment where students feel valued and motivated. Building a strong team culture helps students develop social skills and a sense of belonging, which are essential for their emotional and social growth.
The S.T.O.R.M. Team is an invaluable after-school program that provides a structured, supportive, and enriching environment for students. By focusing on reducing inactivity, improving emotional processing skills, and promoting healthy eating habits, the program ensures that students make the most of their after-school hours. The combination of fun and educational activities keeps students engaged, motivated, and excited to participate, making their after-school time both productive and enjoyable.
Students love the S.T.O.R.M. Team because it offers a unique blend of engaging activities and personal development opportunities. Through fitness missions, SEL coaching sessions, and team-building exercises, students not only have fun but also build important life skills. The program's supportive environment helps boost their confidence and self-esteem, while the chance to connect with peers fosters lasting friendships and a strong sense of community.
