The Covid-19 pandemic demonstrated the vital links between research, communities and public engagement as the new vaccine and its roll out successfully progressed. Unprecedented levels of media coverage included a wide spectrum of public opinion which ranged from scepticism and misinformation through to support and gratitude. Over half a million members of the public joined the Covid research registry and many are still taking part in trials.
This timely PPIE CPD Course is an opportunity to go beyond the numbers and the rhetoric and explore innovative and honest ways of generating and disseminating knowledge across society, and how to foster uptake of this knowledge by building constructive and creative relationships with external partners.
Dr Kristin Liabo (Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement Team Lead) has brought together a mixed team of experts from the College of Medicine and Health and PenPEG to deliver what will be an informative and thought-provoking experience for anyone with an interest in PPIE.
This interdisciplinary Summer School is relevant to those working in public health, public/patient involvement co-ordinators / facilitators, PhD students who are working in different sectors / organisations including healthcare, well-being, social care, housing, transportation, public health, and environment, linking research and practice.

The full course includes three further delivery days on-campus at the University of Exeter.
Wednesday 28th June: 9.30am - 4.30pm (in-person).
Thursday 29th June: 9.30am - 4.30pm (in-person).
Friday 30th June: 9.30am - 1.00pm (in-person).
The venue for all in-person sessions will be Reed Hall, Streatham Campus, University of Exeter.
This course will be delivered online via Zoom (15th March) and in-person (28th, 29th, 30th June) to allow a combination of online and in-person participatory methodologies, including presentations, group work/discussions, breakout discussions and informal meetings. There will also be the opportunity to join social evening events in-person on the 28th and 29th June to continue conversations and aid networking.
