Advanced Art Murals (8 students)
Bringing new artwork to spaces around The Wheatley School and Central Office - MUST SIGN UP WITH MRS. MALONEY
*Baby Hat Crocheting (10 students)
Crochet hats for newborn babies in need. MUST HAVE PRIOR EXPERIENCE CROCHETING.
Birthday Wishes (10 students)
Decorate, wrap, and fill boxes with supplies needed for birthday parties for homeless children
*Building Beautification (20 students)
Help give the exterior of Wheatley a facelift by weeding and planting hundreds of new plants and bulbs!
*Hance Family Foundation - Confidence Club at Wheatley (15 students)
Engage in the confidence club activities promoting self-awareness, enhanced relationships with others, and the power of volunteering.
*Hygiene Bags for the INN (10 students)
Make 1600 hygiene kits for the INN to provide sanitary items for homeless individuals and those struggling with profound poverty
Jessica Cohen and Inner Courtyards (10 students)
Help make Wheatley beautiful and honor former students by pulling weeds, trimming hedges, and replenishing mulch
Little Saint Nicks (20 students)
Gift and toy collection and making cards for children in a local hospital
Muriels and Life Skills Gardens (10 students)
Work together with Life Skills students to switch the garden from summer vegetables to a fall garden and work on restoring Muriels Garden
North Hempstead Animal Shelter (15 students)
Collect donations of large newspapers for animal shelters, learn more about animal shelters with a special visit from an adopted dog from the animal shelter, create fliers for dogs that are up for adoption, and make dog treats for the dogs in the animal shelter.
Red Ribbon Week Preparation (10 students)
Help prepare materials for Red Ribbon Week
Ryan’s Cases for Smiles (12 students)
Learn how to sew cheerful pillowcases for kids receiving cancer treatments in hospitals and cancer centers.
Snack Bags for the INN (20 students)
Assemble 2000 snack bags for the Mary Brennan Inn servicing the homeless and profound poverty populations

Decorate pillowcases for children in hospitals

Identify invasive plants. Beach cleanup on Hempstead Harbor.
Hair We Share (12 students)
Sort ponytails to be made into wigs for women suffering from alopecia.

Prepare materials for teens around Long Island centered around mental health and well-being.
Hempstead Plains Restoration (15 students)
Clear invasive species in Hempstead Plains.
Island Harvest (20 students)
Work with the Island Harvest Food Bank aiding to help end hunger and reduce food waste in Long Island.
*Jones Beach Clean Up (30 students)
Help clean up the beaches and surrounding areas at Jones Beach.
North Hempstead Beach Park (30 students)
Beach clean up at the North Hempstead Beach Park.
North Side and Wellness Fair Volunteers (15 students)
Work with the second-grade team to prepare for the upcoming Halloween party by reading a Halloween book and creating decorations. Then head back to Wheatley to prepare for the first DOSL Wellness Fair. FOR STUDENT LEADERS ONLY

Assist in bulb planting, moving wheelbarrows of compost, and some vine removal.
Planting Fields Arboretum (20 students)
Outdoor beautification of grounds and a project for the educational program.
*Rescuing Families (20 students)
Work on a project to flip a house for a family of an individual with disabilities to make the house more accessible by building ramps and other assistive technology. Work on building the house and modifying the landscaping. No prior experience is needed!
Ronald McDonald House Brunch (11 students)
Prepare appetizers for residents of the Ronald McDonald House.

Sid Jacobson JCC (10 students)
Work with adults/ seniors with dementia and work in the Community Needs Bank to learn about food insecurity.

Beach & trail cleanups at beautiful former Gold Coast estate.

SPLASH stands for Stop Polluting, Littering, and Save Harbors. Go on a boat to clean up and preserve Long Island’s south shore bays and waterways. MUST SIGN UP WITH MR. REYNOLDS.

Support elementary, middle, and high school students with physical disabilities. This may include students in wheelchairs, feeding tubes, trachs, and conjoined twins. Engage in activities throughout the day in their classrooms.

Support the Henry Viscardi Center by volunteering outside in their gardens and raised beds, doing any last harvesting, weeding, and preparing for the winter.
