Mrs. DeAngelo and Mrs. McCotter founded Wheatley's Day of Service in September 2009. The Day of Service and Learning was founded on the principles of service that were done following the events of 9/11. Recently, the Day of Service and Learning was run by Mr. Craven and Mr. Schwalm. This year, the Day of Service and Learning is being run by Ms. Dennington and Mr. Langis.
“At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received, how much money we have made, how many great things we have done. We will be judged by "I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat, I was naked and you clothed me. I was homeless, and you took me in.”
Day of Service and Learning 2023 Timeline
9/11/23 – Assembly connecting Obama's declaration of 9/11 as a "day of service" to our Day of Service and Learning. Students will learn about activities for this year, the importance of the day, and how they can be part of the planning and execution of this event.
9/12/23 - Student Leader Sign Ups begin. DOSL Shirt Sales go LIVE
9/18/23 - Amazon Wishlist goes LIVE
9/20/23 - Website will be updated with 2023 events
9/26/23 - Staff sign ups
9/28/23 - Shirt Sale CLOSES
10/2/23 - Student sign ups begin
10/9/23 - Student sign ups closes. Any students not registered for an event will be placed into an event
10/16/23 - Amazon Wishlist Closes
