During the school year, please direct any questions about the HHS 1:1 program to Priscilla Aniegbuna paniegbuna@ewrsd.k12.nj.us.
What if a student forgets their device or forgets to charge their device?
Students are expected to bring their fully charged device to school every single day. If a student does not bring their device, or if their device is not charged, the teacher may direct the student to do an alternate assignment. If a student forgets to charge their device, there will be charging stations located in the Library to drop off a device for charging during the school day. Students will not be given a loaner if their Chromebook has a dead battery.
Will a student be given a loaned device if their issued device is under repair?
Depending on availability, loaner devices may be issued to students when they leave their device for repair. Due to the limited quantity of loaners, they will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. Therefore, please make sure to report issues immediately.
What if the device battery dies during school hours?
If students charge the device fully before school each day as they are expected to do, the battery will last throughout the entire day. Remember that the use of technology in the classroom will be determined by the instructor, not the student. Students will not be using their devices in every class every day, or for the entire period in classes where they are asked to do so. For this reason, the number of hours a student has their device turned on will be less than the number of hours they are in school on a given day.
How do I purchase my own charger?
The district provides one A/C power adapter that the students should leave at home throughout the year. If this district-provided A/C power adapter is lost, the student MUST report it to their house office. Students may purchase an A/C power adapter from their house office. The cost for an A/C power adapter is $ 50.99 (as of 8/28/19, subject to change).
What if I do not have internet access at home?
Students are still able to do some of their schoolwork without an internet connection by enabling offline docs, but many assignments and resources do require the internet. If you are interested in obtaining affordable internet service at home, please check to see if you are eligible for Comcast's Internet Essentials program, Verizon’s Lifeline Discount Program, or AT&T’s Access Program. Additionally, everyone.org offers tools for searching for additional service providers. If considering services, it is the responsibility of the family to thoroughly evaluate the service, costs, limitations, terms and conditions. The district does not guarantee acceptance into the program, quality of service, or terms of service. This is not an endorsement of these or any other internet service provider. Other, lower cost providers may be available. East Windsor Regional Public Schools will not serve as a home internet service provider.
What should we do if the Chromebook has been lost or stolen?
Notify your child's Assistant Principal immediately and current procedures will be implemented. Note that the family must report the lost or stolen device to the police and then turn in the police report to the school and fill out the Chromebook loss form. The device tracking will then be activated and the device rendered unusable.
What if a student is out of school for an extended period (illness, travel, family, emergency, etc.)?
With the devices, it will become even easier for students to receive work from their teacher. Assignments, readings, and other resources can be placed online and shared with the student who is absent. The student can do the work online from home and share it back with the teacher.
Can my child opt out of having a Chromebook?
No. Chromebooks are expected to become an integral part of the education all students receive at Hightstown High School and we want them to take advantage of the powerful learning resources available with it. The East Windsor Regional School District believes that an internet connected device will be a required resource for our students as they enroll in college and or enter the professional arena. With this belief in mind, the District believes that students should learn how to effectively manage a device. Students are responsible for the Chromebook’s general care and content accessed through the device.
Can I install parental controls?
The student issued devices are filtered in school for inappropriate content. Though not all filters are foolproof, many parents asked for their own filtering as well. If you want additional security on your home network, there are 3rd party programs and services which exist that allow you to filter your internet at home. Parents should work with their internet service provider on setting up filtering at home.
Will faculty or staff have access to the webcam on the device?
No. Faculty and staff will not have access to remote control of the device.
How can I access my child's account?
All East Windsor Regional students have a Google Apps account that is accessed by using their EWRSD username and password. We encourage all parents to know their child's account login information, so please obtain and record this information from your child.
You do not need your child's Chromebook to access their Google account. You can simply open a web browser on any device with internet access to access your child's email, calendars, and files:
