March

Fourth graders continue to shine in GNR! Fourth graders have learned how to multiply and divide multi-digit numbers, explore multiple reading and writing genres, and discover more about themselves as learners and leaders. A standout moment was when we experienced our Lady Liberty unit, which introduced us to the immigration process from 1892 to the mid 1920’s. We learned all the interesting, strange, and surprising facts behind Ellis Island! Fourth graders got to virtually explore the island, participate in creating an immigration scrapbook, and learn from primary and secondary sources about this time in our country’s history.

We have some fun experiences coming around the corner, like our school-wide March Madness book competition and GNR Read Across the World Challenge! We are looking forward to all of our upcoming events, as we know these fun times are an opportunity to grow in many diverse ways. In addition, we will be diving into fractions, poetry, and our plant unit soon enough. It is so incredible how fast the time flies! The GNR fourth grade students continue to amaze us with how innovative, creative, and enthusiastic they are each day. To support your learners at home, please continue to encourage independent reading and math fact practice each night.

Please join me in welcoming Ms. Jackie Miller, our new school counselor, to the GNR family! Ms. Miller is an experienced counselor who has worked in the elementary and middle school grades. Most recently, she served as the intervention counselor at MHK and prior to that she was an elementary school counselor.

Ms. Miller is filling the vacancy due to Mr. Basmagy’s move to MHK. We have arranged for Ms. Miller to come to GNR to meet the students and staff and to transition with Mr. Basmagy so when she gets to GNR, she can hit the ground running.

Ms. Miller is as excited to join the GNR family as we are to have her!
