Broadway Tap, or Show Tap, is a combination of rhythm tap and ballet/jazz. It is a lighter style of tap and uses more calculated movements of the arms and legs, and is more similar to ballet and jazz. The sounds are created by taps on the bottom of the shoe using the heel and the toe. The "Soft Shoe" is a technique used in Broadway Tap. It does not require a certain type of shoe. Instead, it focuses more on expressive movements, using slides and quick steps to glide across the stage. Sometimes, instead of wearing tap shoes, the girl dancer wears character shoes.
