Learn to Code

Coding is one of the hottest skills in demand of today's graduates.  If you want to join the ranks of Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg and others, then you need to learn how to code NOW. Many successful entrepreneurs started programming when they were teens.  Visit some of sites and apps below to get started.

Code. org: 

• Learn the basic concepts of Computer Science with drag and drop programming. This is a game-like, self-directed tutorial starring video lectures by Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Angry Birds and Plants vs. Zombies. Learn repeat-loops, conditionals, and basic algorithms. 

Scratch:  

• One of the most popular learn to code websites.  It is very game based.

Light Bot:

• Learn how to code by playing a fun game with a robot.  Learn core programming logic, starting from super-basic programming, for ages 4+, on iOS or Android (or Web browser) . Learn how to sequence commands, identify patterns, use procedures, and utilize loops. One of my favorites!

Light Bot 2: 

• If you loved Light Bot, then continue the challenge with Light Bot 2.

Code Combat: 

• Play as a Wizard using code (spells) to control your heroes, navigate mazes, defeat ogres, trick enemies, and rescue allies! Learn JavaScript in this HTML 5 web game for complete beginners.

Khan Academy:

• One of the leading sites for learning just about anything including how to code.

Code Avengers: 

• This self-paced tutorial teaches how to create a quiz game using JavaScript, which can be shared with friends. Along the way, students are rewarded with points, badges and bonus games and compete to reach the top of their class leaderboard.

MIT App Inventor:  

• Have an idea for an app?  Use MIT App Inventor to get it up and running in no time.

Grasshopper

• • How about learning how to code using an app on your phone.  Grasshopper is an app you can download to help you learn Javascript in just a few minutes a day.
