Lorelai Victoria Gilmore, played by Lauren Graham, is one of the main "Gilmore Girls." Mother of Rory Gilmore, (the second Gilmore girl). She was a rebellious teenager, who fell pregnant at 16. Her close relationship with Rory leads to a best friend relationship. However, this also leads to silly, immature disputes between them. She is also very hardworking, were at the beginning of the show, she was running the Independence Inn, and moved on to open her own inn, later in the show.
Rory Leigh Gilmore, played by Alex Bledel, is the daughter of Lorelai Gilmore, and is the "second" Gilmore girl. Rory is an intelligent and studious girl. In the first season, she gets accepted into a local prestigious school, Chilton. She creates friendships, enemies, and relationships there. The school brought her one step closer to her dream of becoming a journalist, and attending Harvard. (Even though she ended up attending Yale).
Emily Gilmore, played by Kelly Bishop, is the mother of Lorelai in the show, is a traditional woman who likes to play by the rules. She lives a wealthy lifestyle, and is protective over her daughter. She is often perceived as manipulative in the show, and still sees Lorelai as a baby that needs protecting. This is often the main reason for their disputes, which happen often, as they have a rocky relationship.
Richard Gilmore, played by Edward Herman, is the father of Lorelai, and the wife of Emily Gilmore, is also a traditional man, who lives a wealthy lifestyle with Emily in a nice neighborhood near Stars Hollow. He is close with Rory, and is often portrayed as a bit of a workaholic.
Luke Danes, played by Scott Patterson, is a Stars Hollow local, who owns the iconic "Luke's Diner." He has a connection with the small town, as well as with Lorelai. He is always there for her when she needs him, which a meaningful relationship between the two - even throughout the different challenges life throws at them.
Sookie St. James, played by Melissa McCarthy, is the best friend of Lorelai Gilmore, who is there for her through thick and thin. The two have a close relationship. With Lorelai, Sookie worked at the Independence Inn as a Chef, (Lorelai ran the inn), before the opening of the Dragonfly Inn where she was a co-owner, also along with Lorelai. She is passionate about cooking, and is a bit accident prone, which plays a big role in her quirky, bubbly personality.
Paris Geller, played by Liza Weil, is Rory Gilmore's best friend, who is a bit hard headed. Rory and her met at Chilton, and Paris was very rude. They soon become enemies, but worked out their issues, and actually grew to be best friends, especially during their time together at Yale.
Lane Kim, played by Keiko Agena, is Rory's childhood best friend. Lane and Rory know everything about each other in the show, and have an unmatched connection. Lane herself, is a music lover, however she has a very religious mother, who does not approve of most of her interests. However, this is only the case because Lane's mom is a very traditional person, who is very in touch with her Korean culture, and just wants the best for her daughter.
Christopher Hayden, played by David Sutcliffe, is Rory's biological father. He occasionally appears in episodes, however he is pretty irresponsible, and usually makes emotional and spontaneous decisions.
